Target Margin Theater Mission Statement

Target Margin Theater is founded on the principle that works of art return us to real truths more powerfully by their divergence from a strict illustration of reality.  Through classic as well as contemporary texts, we seek continuously to expand our conception of what can take place in a theater.
Art offers a metaphor for reality.  Experimental art pushes the boundary of that metaphor so that it distorts the world we know, thereby leading us to connect to that world more viscerally.  This paradox is the core of our work at Target Margin Theater.  We upset the familiar order to reawaken our engagement with it.  Unlike those who attempt to present difficult works by making them look and sound easily recognizable to an audience, we believe that divergence from strict reality challenges us to understand ourselves better.  Work that is intellectually rigorous has an extra obligation to welcome its audience along for the ride. We like storytelling, low comedy, big characters and surprise. Just as our work invites endless interpretation, we try to offer many doors into it. Together these qualities yield a Target Margin theatrical experience.  We do not completely understand it, yet we recognize it and it moves us.
